Protecting Yourself Against Viruses.

Hello Readers..
My last post was about What is computer viruses?.. and now this post is on Protecting Yourself Against Viruses..

Prevention is always the best cure. You can do a lot to prevent a computer virus program from getting at your system or data.
Virus and Trojan horse programs that have been downloaded aren't dangerous unless you actually run them.

Now Here Are Some Important Virus-Prevention Tips:
1. If there are no virus-protection program (Antivirus) on your system, install one, and update it frequently.
2. If your anti-virus program offers automatic, full-time protection, consider enabling it. This will scan downloads, and watch  files and programs in your system.
3. Be careful about what you download. What to download? - In general, if a program has a lot of downloads-download counts for program in databases are visible on some systems-and you've seen no complaints about it on bulletin boards, you are probably safe in downloading that.
4. If you receive an e-mail with an attached file from someone you do not know, delete the file immediately. If the file is from someone you know, ask them where the got it and whether they have scanned it for viruses. (You may want to scan it yourself.)
5. If a friend or associate gives you a disk with a program on it, ask them whether the know if the program is safe. Have they run the program themselves? Have they scanned it for viruses? Do they know where they got the program?.
6. Before running a new program, carefully examine the files in the program archive and read any READ.Me or similar text files-the authors of public domain and shareware programs often include a description, with file sizes, of the files in a program archive. If you see any files that aren't included in the description, don't use the program.
7. Even if the program is not immediately suspect, scan it using one of the virus-prevention programs. (Some can be set to scan archives and programs as you download them.)
8. If you suspect a program of carrying a virus, don't use it. Scan it with one or more virus-protection programs.

  6. Hi all,

If your system gets a virus, visit your virus-scan software manufacturer's web site and install any virus updates that are available. Then run the software. The software may not be able to delete the virus, but it may be able to identify it. Thanks a lot.....
